Question by boy average: What is the difference in strength between ancient hominids and great apes?

I have found many sources that compare the strength of humans to great apes, and the difference of course is quite large. However, I have always been curious as to how strong our recent ancestors and relatives were. Such as Homo neandertalensis or Homo heidelbergensis. I know that you can't measure the precise difference in strength between extinct human relatives and apes, and even if they weren't exist it would be difficult to compare, but judging from skeletal remains were ancient hominids like Homo heidelbergensis closer to us in strength or closer to the great apes?
